Each morning, Surya rises in his radiant chariot, drawn by seven horses. His rays spread across the sky, awakening the earth and revealing all that was hidden in darkness. He travels from horizon to horizon, marking the passage of time with his light. At dusk, he disappears from view. At dawn, he returns and begins the journey again.
Surya within me is the promise to return to what matters, each day.
He rises.
He crosses the sky.
He fills the world with light.
And when another dawn arrives, he returns.
- Made with rust-copper and antique-beige reclaimed sari textiles, the jacket carries Surya’s journey through a procession of suns. Each red centre holds the fire of Surya.
- Around it, gold/bronze couching, mirrored stones, iridescent sequins, and beaded gold rays embroidery open like rays spreading across the sky.
- The horizontal bands become horizons. One sun follows another across them, recalling Surya’s passage from dawn to dusk and his return the following morning.
- Copper, bronze, and burnt-orange metallic tones carry the changing color of Surya's light, from the deep rust nearest the shoulders to the paler antique-beige further down. The motifs continue across the sleeves, allowing his radiance to travel around the wearer.
- Dark espresso petal-shaped accents form five-petal flowers across the beige panels, outlined in fine gold seed beadwork, a reminder that this constancy is what gives brith to the life around it.
- The jacket features wide horizontal bands, an open front, no buttons, closures or pockets, and a soft patchworked point collar.
- There is no single sun at the centre of this design. The suns appear again and again. Their repetition holds the heart of Surya’s story.
- Perfectly imperfect. Handle with care Each piece carries traces of its earlier life. You may notice uneven stitching, worn areas, missing beads or variations in the embellishment. We carefully prepare each jacket while preserving the character of the textiles it holds. Older embellishments can be delicate or loose and need gentle handling.
