Gaja Maitri is an elephant statement ring with a detailed side profile, curved trunk, repeating ornamental loops, and small figures gathered along its back. Its oxidized finish highlights the intricate design.
Gaja means elephant; maitri means friendship and goodwill.
In the Bhagavata Purana, Gajendra, king of the elephants, entered a lake with his herd. When a crocodile seized his leg, his companions gathered and tried to pull him free. Their strength reached its limit. Gajendra then called upon Vishnu, who came to his rescue.
Gaja Maitri draws from the moment his companions reached toward him. Friendship became an action: noticing distress, coming closer, and offering help.
